Good? Dog Treats

    Good? Dog Treats

What would everybody classify as "good" dog treats? I know I read the ingredients on almost everything and never get stuff with by-product, corn meal, fructose, etc...but can you name some brands you buy from the store?

I am all in for making my own treats like I do my semi-home cooking for Marley's meals, but when I am in a pinch or want to grab something for vacation, what would you grab last minute?

We are a Zukes family. What they get most is the MiniNaturals because they are low cal and very portable (semi-moist but not sticky or crumbly) and occasionally the Jerky Naturals (but I make 4 tiny treats from one square) for home use.

From time to time I bake them homemade liver treats which I freeze in one cup rations in ziplock bags; those have to be kept in the fridge afterwards.

Banana, apple slices, cucumber, carrots, watermelon, baked squash. Piper likes anything that goes into a humans mouth. She can hear me peeling a banana from two rooms away. Actually, a treat is anything, including kibble, given by hand or dug out of the garbage (we're working on that).

Doug, I think Tootsie and Piper might be sisters. Minus the garbage, but if she could reach it I'm sure that would factor in also. :)

Big Old Mother Hubbard fans here, and the little ones are pretty cheap! I can't justify dropping $8-9 on one box of treats...

Rascal likes Zukes, and also the Wellness jerky treats. I especially like the Wellness for training treats because I can use scissors to cut them up into teeny tiny pieces. With a teeny tiny dog, it's hard to do much training if the dog gets full after 4 rewards!

I'm not much of a dog treat snob. I use the whole range from milkbones and the like (get them free) to natural balance to limited ingredient treats and even make my own (dehydrated stuff). On normal days, my dogs might get 1 treat per day which really isn't enough for me to worry about making sure the ingreds are the best. If we are going to do a bunch of repetitive training then i will go for something healthier.

I tend to stick to grain free treats * Fromm Four-Star lamb with cranberry grain free treats ( I normally snap one in half and give half to each girl.) they love these and so do I because not only do they smell good but they work great as a bit of a breath freshener! There's a vendor on Amazon that sells 6 packs for $21 free shipping! * Natural Balance grain free treats biscuits (sweet potato & venison, potato & duck, and sweet potato and fish) * Natural Balance Duck and potato roll ( this is the only NB roll that is grain free. I have a 1lb roll I cut into little bites and keep them in a ziplock in the fridge. I use these or their totw kibble for training treats) They occasionally get cheese or carrots or a frozen treat filled kong closed with canned pumpkin. As for chews their favorite is beef tendons. They also like bully sticks, antlers and knee cap bones.

    Ditto to what Julie said.
