What do you wean your puppies onto?

The pup that I am handraising is doing very well. Gaining weight, has a big appetite, seems healthy and content. He is still on the bottle, but I know I'll have to think about weaning in the upcoming weeks.  Just so that I'm prepared, what is the best thing to wean a puppy onto?

I read online that  milk formula mixed with ground puppy food to create a mush is the best thing. I also read rice cereal and milk.  I've never had to wean a pup before so would like some input in what worked for those of you have have experience.

Also, I don't know if this makes a difference on feeding, but I still don't know what breed he is.  He is still tiny so I would assume a small breed. He is getting chunkier and a bit longer, but I just don't see him turning into a big dog (he still fits into my hand).

     Thanks

We used Esbilac and raw (Oma's Pride - raw for dogs)

I always used esbilac and ground/soaked dry puppy food (usually Blue Buffalo)

I've heard of people weaning onto Honest Kitchen :) Not something I know much about, but I remember reading it somewhere. Their customer service is EXCELLENT and I bet the folks there might have some insight.

Ok, thanks for the ideas. He is just now starting to lick things rather than suck, so I bet pretty soon he will be able to eat a soft mixture.
