    Homemade Dog Cookies

Can anyone tell me if Whole Wheat Flour and Wheat Bran is the best to use for making dog cookies? Going to give it a try. Thanks

We do not use any wheat of any kind in our treats.  As we feed grain free it is rather silly to then treat them with a food that we would never feed.  Instead when I mke cookies I use Instant Mashed Potatoes as the binding agent.  It works brilliantly and you figure out with in a batch or two  if you must alter the time baked.  I cook for a large number of large dogs , my Rhodesians and dear freind's Irish Wolfhounds.   We avoid Corn , Wheat, Soy and Rice and our dogs live longer with fewer of the lumps and bumps that are the norm of our elders.  ( they are considered hot carbs so we only use potato, oatmeal and barley) .

Bonita thank you for your reply, I will try your suggestion of instant potatoes, it sure seems like it would be healthier. (even sweet potatoes)

I can't believe more people didn't have comments on this, as I am surprised that more dog owners don't try to make their own treats,  I know it may seem time consuming but the simple effort it takes, makes me feel good.  And a bonus is, if they eat it, it is good for them and good results in the end.

    Happy Saturday

There was a similar thread a few months ago in which several people had suggestions for making treats. Jessie's home made treats consist of very lean ground beef (she has to have a low fat diet) combined with an egg, some pureed vegetables and bread crumbs, then baked, cut into small squares, and frozen.

I didn't respond because I thought you were asking which one was better, whole wheat flour or wheat bran.  And I don't have an opinion on that, other than I wouldn't use either one because I have a dog who is allergic to wheat.  I generally use rice flour or instant mashed potatoes.
