At 7 months he needs to be eating at least twice a day. Puppies need to eat more often than adults do.
How much depends on what you are feeding him. Whatever is on the bag is merely a guideline -- higher quality foods often have smaller amounts to be fed (because it has less "fillers" and actually there's far less waste).
I would also encourage you NOT to "free feed". don't just set a bowl down and walk away -- wait for him to finish whatever and pick it up in 10 minutes. If you keep him to regular feeding times it will help, not only with house-training, but it will also help you monitor his health. You'll know when his stomach is off, or if he's obstructed if you get him on a regular eating schedule. Less easy than plopping a bowl on the floor but the information it gives you about how he's feeling and his general health is pricelelss.
But the "how much" is going to vary widely with what you are feeding and whether it is for youngn dogs or adults. He likely doesn't strictly need puppy food at this point but he'll need food for growth (they don't attain full and complete growth til about 18 months) Good luck and welcome!
