Natural Balance Food Rolls (for treats)

What do you think of this as a dog treat? Earlier, I bought a one pound roll (turkey). I've seen you guys mention them before, some of you saying they work wonders... I think it was Liesje, maybe. I had bookmarked it into my "dog treats" folder a while ago. And then I was just watching a Jean Donaldson training video recently where she talks about different training treats. After she finished talking about the lower end treats, she said "Now, if you want to go really high end... try one of these food rolls." I could see that it was the Natural Balance food roll. One thing I did notice in the ingredients is sugar. Also, I'm not sure about the caloric density. How is this compared to something like Charlee Bears at 3 calories?

I use the duck version, sometimes. I don't use the others, because of the wheat flour. My dogs like it, a LOT, but I recently found greentripe.com's K9 Magic. Ingredients are better, and the dogs FLIP OUT for it!!!  It's not horribly stinky, and it's fairly inexpensive, for what it is. It lasts, if you freeze it.

Calorie wise, IDK. I cut food, if I use a lot of treats. I cut treat rolls a LOT smaller than Charlee Bears.

Thanks for shraring this about K9 Magic by GreenTripe. Went to GreenTripe.com but didn't find an ordering form. Not that I was going to order now anyway. Where did you actually order it? I did find it on one website, and it looks about same price as Natural Balance. I do like the idea that the ingredients are better, though. About the stinkiness... isn't that a good thing for it to be stinky when it comes to training treats? And why do you suppose these rolls work so well? Just a stronger meat taste to them?

I use natural balance almost exclusivly as training treats. Mainly because its so easy to give the smallest piece so you don't over treat. My dogs love the stuff.

I use these rolls, but I only use them once a week and only in training class.  For daily training I use their regular dog food.  I will also use the roll if I am working somewhere with lots of distractions and I know the food just won't cut it, or if we are between meals.

I have these on hand all the time as pill dispensers and for training. I love how easy it is to keep and I can make the pieces any size needed for any dog I'm training.  My dogs like the beef and lamb formulas better than the chicken, so those are what I buy.

I cut it into strips and freeze that way. Then I thaw what I need for pills or training.  I can carry two or three strips in my hand a lot easier than a bunch of cut up pieces and then just break off a piece as I need them.

I keep my old butter tubs for the purpose of freezing dog treats. :)

I think they like the tripe kind better because it's tripe. My dogs are head over heels in love with anything TRIPE. It's not super stinky, but it smells plenty, LOL. I can't lure mine with it, or my normally polite dogs will chomp my fingers. Bugsy won't, though! LOL

You can CALL greentripe.com and order it for less than the price it's available from elsewhere. I ordered, recently, from Pet Expertise, and got some from them.

    too funny!

BTW i gave a treat to the mean doxie we stayed with and nearly lost a finger - I am spoiled!

We've used the NB rolls for treats and for pills - I think I'll look into the tripe as he had split seconds of attention for Jennie with that Wink
