Kibble alternative to Raw

    Kibble alternative to Raw

The dogs and I are going to be on the road for a bit and it is just not feasible to feed raw in an 18 wheeler truck. Lol

So I'm just looking for an alternative for the trip. It'll be about a week long so this won't be a long term change. As soon as I'm able, they'll be back on raw.

    Thanks!

What about just going back to whatever they were on before you went to the raw.  At least that way you would know that it agrees with them.

What about The Honest Kitchen? It's dehydrated raw.

I think it might be a little more expensive, but if you're only feeding it for a week then that shouldn't be a problem.

I can't get THK here. And I think you have to add water to it right? I won't access to running water all the time.

I'm thinking a small bag of Solid Gold..

The kibble I was feeding before changed the ingredients and Maze had a reaction to it.

How about one of the freeze-dried raw products such as, Nature's Variety or Stella and Chewy's---it may be a bit spendy, but might be do-able if only for a short time.  Kibble alternatives to look into that are considered to be closest to raw would be the Nature's Variety Instinct line, Orijen, Acana, Horizon, Solid Gold (Barking at the Moon formula), Wellness Core, to name a few.

I've always used bottled water, to rehydrate my dogs' food. A few gallons of water doesn't take up too much space, if you wanted to go that route. I think the most important thing will be finding something Miss Maze tolerates.

    Bingo Jennie!

She has eaten Solid Gold before and seemed to due well on it. I stopped feeding it due to price. But a small bag isn't that much.

I'd go ahead and switch her, a couple of weeks before the trip, to reduce the stress on her tummy.

My pet store doesn't carry these at least I don't think they do. I don't think they carry any freeze dried raw.. *thinks*   If they do, I'll look into it. I'm working on a very small budget and have to keep the rumors from spreading. (Long story)

Good idea but my issue is keeping it under wraps. If I show any change in what I'm doing, then it'll cause a stir.. Maybe I can buy a bag and use it as treats.. Would that work?

Maybe! You know her better than I do. It'll definitely help, to at least introduce it. Raw to kibble is a pretty big change.

I know.. *bangs head on table* I do use kibble in general as random treats for her treat ball.... *ponders* I think this may work..

Well, then, how about feeding her part raw, part kibble, and putting the kibble portion in the treat ball?  Wink

See this is why I ask! Lol

Use the kibble you use for the treat ball.  Her tummy is accustomed to getting it and you know she's ok with it.

Otherswise, one of my fav kibbles is Acana Pacifica.  My dogs can convert from raw to it with no trouble at all.
