Do you use rawhides?

The braided bullies just don't last here..Aesop can kill one in about 15 minutesSad We still buy them, but it doesn't last. Hooves work sometimes but they've been getting pieces off lately, so not sure if my dogs are developing chewing skills or if the store is getting thinner hooves.

We buy the giant pressed rawhide bones and they last over a week being passed from dog to dog..so that's fairly impressive for chews around here, lol.

I had tried the sting ray tails, but Aesop wasn't fond of them.  I may give one a try again now that we have Goose..she's not a huge chewer, but everyone else seems to have a renewed interest in chews now that there's a puppy who might want to chew something

I don't feed the regular rawhides as both Aesop and my late Legend had issues getting soggy pieces off and then getting it stuck near the back of their throats. Thus, I've steered clear of them.  I think my Chow boys have just been weird, though, as none of the other dogs have had such an issue

After reading all of the stuff on rawhides, I really don't like to give those to Sim. We give him bully sticks(that reek but he loves those) and recently have tried a deer antler with him. A lot less smelly and he likes them just the same as bully sticks. :) Have to be careful though, he LOVES to toss things around and those deer antlers could certainly break glass.

I don't like rawhides personally. I don't like how they get sticky and slimy and basically turn to glue. When I was growing up they were a huge thing, and I've seen my fair share of gagging and choking on them, while pulling six-inch stringy pieces out from throats.I choose not to use them. My dogs get most of their chewing from raw bones - there is no comparison for them. In terms of rec chews, I buy a bully stick at Christmas for them and they like their antlers through the year.

Good luck finding them!  I asked a vendor at an expo why I couldn't find them anymore, and he said PETA.  Seems because of their protesting there is a ton of them in a warehouse someplace (after all, we all know how cruel it is to use every part of a dead critter, right?).  I licked out, tho- sometime over the summer, the place I buy critter food found a box of them in the back.  They sold me what was left at a huge discount.  I'm really hoping all this poop with PETA will end and I'll be able to find them again.

Bugsy gets raw bones - especially beef knuckles - I used to get him pig's legs to eat (raw) but he puked a couple up so i don't give him those now

I do currently have some rawhide retrievers from Costco that I give him on occasion - I let him eat about a half at a time.  He's never had an issue with them but he has had issues with pressed rawhide.

Honestly bully sticks aren't even a chew for him, they are gone in an instant

He gets tracheas but those don't last more than a couple of minutes either

He has eaten deer antlers and we currently have huge elk antler and that is better for him

He had a couple of pig's ears as a pup but ate them like a potato chip so hasn't had any since.  he also ate an entire cow hoof in less than 5 minutes as a pup so no more of those

The feed store where we buy our TOTW (and our bullies..and just about every other chewy) does usually carry the tails thankfully :) Though I haven't paid attention that last few times I've been in to see if they're still there.

They just got antlers in so I'll have to give one of those a try as well

Nope. Penny is too much of a possessive gulper, so I'd rather not chance it. When we first got her and before I read more up on rawhides, she got tons of them and loved it, but it's not worth it to me now. Instead, I give her bully sticks and salmon skin bones.

Max is the second dog I've had that gets diarrhea from rawhide, so that's why I don't give it to him.  He gets bully sticks, hooves and pig's ears and when I think of it, I toss a soup bone in the grocery cart for him.

Yep, same here. The antlers are the best thing I've found that's both long-lasting and doesn't have any drawbacks. I wish I'd known about them long ago.

I have thought that so many times as I watch him gnawing away on the antler

    Hmmm....sounds like Apollo!!

Apollo gets raw, frozen, soup bones instead and the occasional bully stick or pig ear. Patty & Molson can have whatever (bully sticks, hooves, ears, etc), it takes them a while to chew them.

Yup, same happens here...but he still get 'em cause he loves 'em!

Patty OTOH, could have a pigs ear for about 2 weeks or so. She "savors" everything, what a lady, lol!

I give pig ears very rarely but they do LOVE them, and yes sadly they go threw them quick too. I recently got a beef tendon from merrick for the puppys and it lasted them much longer than the rawhides I gave them. It was right by the bully stix a little cheaper too and was sorta shaped like a wishbone.

Thats silly what PETAs doing about those tails, It takes alot to annoy or offend me but PETA really really annoys me. When i go to DEMF they usually have booths set up with videos of pigs getting neuterd without ansthetic. They ask for donations and tell ya we have to speak for the animals. Most of the girls seem sweet and think they are doing a good deed, but some are very into it and are pushy or mean.
