    Feeding dog hotdog?

I ran out of dog food tonight so I supplemented my dogs kibble with a hotdog. It was actually a turkey frank with no fat. Is this ok for her? I thought I heard about people using them for training but when I looked things up just now it seems like lots of people are saying it can give them pancreatitis from just one?

My understanding is that pancreantitis can be triggered by high fat foods.  If the turkey frnak has no fat.....that wouldn't be an issue.  I wouldn't make a habit of feeding them to her but I doubt its gonna hurt.

People use hotdogs all the time for training treats and tracking bait.  If the dog got pancreatitis from just one I'd think there was already something wrong with the dog.

Ditto.  If I were out, & I were desperate, I'd either feed the weiner or fast the dogs for the night.

I'd be ok feeding it to my dog assuming they didn't have sensitive stomachs :)  It's just one meal afterall.

I've fed oatmeal for a meal on days I ran out of food and needed to get by until the next morning when the feed store opened.  But my dogs love oatmeal...it's a favorite treat.  Nothing like a 75 lb Chow who thinks they have to eat their oatmeal from a spoon...

Because of the high sodium content it is not a good choice. If you are out of dog food you can use and egg and oatmeal dinner. cook a 1 cup of oats and then add 4 eggs after the oats cook you can use a few grated veggies if you like. yields about 3 cups. Its healthy and the dogs love it.
