Raw Recreation Bones

    Raw Recreation Bones

    Hey guys...quick question.

This weekend I just started researching raw diets...I need lots of time to learn this stuff...but for fun I bought my kiddos some raw beef bones (the recreation ones...Primal brand) mainly because I could not resist...and they had a BLAST with them out in the cool grass this evening. Since they are raw beef bones, marrow in the middle...they got all the "meaty" stuff off them, and now mainly just the bone part is left....do I leave the bones for them to chew on or will they spoil?  Should I put them in the fridge overnight again until they want them tomorrow...or can they take the bones into their crates tonight like they want to?  Just wondering b/c they are raw and uncooked.

    Thanks!

Personally, I leave them out. Some folks refrigerate them overnight. Depends on your comfort level and your dogs' tolerance for things. Mine lie around til I get sick of stepping on them.

I would *not* allow them to have the bones unsupervised. Those Pittie jaws are strong, and they might bite pieces off and swallow too much.

If you could see my dogs kennel, you would know my answer. Its littered with bones. From the short stubby Soup Bones I get from the grocery store, to the entire moose leg and deer spine from the winter. Looks like the Elephant Grave Yard from the Lion King except no Elephant bones. I reuse the soup bones though. Stuff them with all kinds of stuff and freeze for when I don't have fresh bones for them.

Thanks!  Looks like I'll let them take them into their crates tonight!  I'm preggers right now...so awake every stinkin' 2 hours...so I'll be sure to check on them throughout the night and make sure they aren't making "too" much progress!

I'm so excited about switching to this raw diet...you should have seen the drool coming down their lips as they gnawed away at those raw bloody meaty bones!  There's just so much to learn!

So I'll let them have them, but if I see them making Pitbull progress, I'll take them away ASAP.

     I'm glad they're enjoying it:)

I let him chew on his marrow bones till hes done, then if they still have some yummy stuff left on them, I put them in the fridge and give it to him later or the next day.

I used to leave them out, but I got sick of constantly tripping on them lol.

My boy isnt a power chewer so I have never had that problem, but I'd keep a good watch on your puppers. Bull dogs have quite the jaw power, so be careful they dont try bite chunks of bone off.

We leave them out here as well

How do you avoid problems when leaving the bones out???

     What kind of problems???

Pooches have been really good with their bones left over from last night...they are REALLY thick bones that are left over...they're like a hollow 3" bone that was filled with marrow...and they haven't made ANY progress on getting big or even little pieces off. So it appears they'll be able to keep them out.

I think maybe what 3girls was wondering was if they would have problems with fighting over the bones...and my dogs have never had even the slightest snarl or growl at eachother even when they are stealing eachother's bones.  I had wondered too if something as tasty as this would cause issues...but they've been perfect angels just like with everything else.  So no problems with aggression if that's what 3girls was talking about maybe?  I definitely got lucky in that dept. with my pooches. The worst it gets is, Ruby will stash ALL the goodies in front of her and kind of "hug" them and try to hide/keep them away from Stewie.  Stewie just bounces around playfully, and then usually ends up sitting on her until she gives up some of her booty!

Anywho...it's going great...I'm so excited the raw beef seems to be sitting well with them. I'll give them a little bit more raw beef maybe this weekend as a treat...we have some beef ribs in the freezer that I got on a mega sale at Wal-Mart...so as I'm researching this raw food diet...I can slowly get them used to it!  I'm so excited! :)

Here is Stewie enjoying the nice summer weather on the porch...with his bone...still.  He's ben working on it most of the day, and most of last night! LOL

    NOM NOM NOM NOM!!!

And Ruby cannot eat her bones with the Camera watching her...it's unladylike! LOL  I don't think I've ever been able to take a pic of her eating/drinking...or anything like that...she's not a fan of the camera! (Although her bone is in the background).

I leave them out until I trip over them. Ruby, is in no way more hating on the camera than my Tootsie.
