Our first Rally Trial, good news/bad news...

Bad news is it was even uglier than the match we did in the rain a couple of weeks ago. We scored a 71. I thought being the next to last in was going to work in our favor. I'd better guess again- Caleb had too long to wait between the walk thru and our turn, so his little yellow brain turned off of "work" mode and back into "oh look another dog walked here, must sniff" mode. LOL He was so wound up when I was doing the walk thru I thought he'd be "On". Oh well. We had fun none the less.

Oh yeah- I guess you'd like to hear the good news. It's kind of two part. Part one is we got a qualifing score towards our Rally Novice title- barely. Part two is, are you ready for this- we placed 3rd! We were tied for 3rd place with a Pap, but we were faster (remember the blurry heeling photo from January?  LOL).

ETA- Oh, I almost forgot- I just have to brag on my dear, wonderful husband.  Two weeks ago he drove us to a match in the cold, damp rain.  Today he sat out in 50 degree weather with wind that was blowing garbage canse across the show grounds.  What a guy!

At the end of the day, as long as you had fun, the score really doesn't matter.  Besides, you still got a Q!

Ain't that the truth!  And fun we had.  I've always said I'd be happy just to get a Q.

Did you guys have a small class?  Or did a ton of other competitors fail the course?  Because, really, if others failed the course, then you can add a pat on your back for maintaining enough focus in the midst of 50 degree windy weather causing garbage cans to roll around the grounds!  Shoot, that's a lot of distraction for a first time in the ring, and a qualifying score under those circumstances is not to be minimized.

Small class- only 4 dogs.  About half didn't show up.  But still, we watched 2 Standard Schnauzers be excused from the Excellent class because as soon as they started the course, each one of them ran to the corner infront of where we were sitting searching for the other one (who was in the car away from the ring, but in that general direction).  Tha garbage cans and signs blowing around never even fazed Caleb.  The signs were just a few feet from where we were sitting, and he didn't even pick up his head.  Except for the vacuum when he was tiny, nothing phases this dog.
