What are you currently feeding?
Acana Praire Harvest..... until Saturday. I went to the holistic store to pick up more kibble and was looking at alternate options. I explained Layla's health concerns to the girl who always helps me and she recommended removing kibble from their diet completely, even though I soak and float it giving Layla most of the "gravy." (Abbie drinks a lot, so it's not an issue.) She suggested giving them canned in coordination with the home cooking I do. On her recommendation I purchased a couple of cans of Mulligans Stew, which is supposed to be a food that helps to "clean up their systems." I also got a couple of cans of Evo. I also got some powder probiotics to help re-introduce good bacteria into Layla's system due to the anti biotics. I've always given plain, fat free yogurt and she said I could still give it. She also gave me several frozen raw "patties" to give with the home cooking.
I'm just wondering if eliminating the dry from their diet is a good idea?? I feel like I feed them well, but I worry about their diet being balanced. For example, I made crock pot chicken over the weekend, like I've been doing in conjunction w/the kibble. I used bone in chicken thighs w/legs attached, bone in, half a bag of frozen mixed veggies and brown rice, cooking til the bones were soft. Sometimes I'll do chicken livers in olive oil on the stove top and add a little rice, it's their favorite and they always get veggies.... sweet potato (instead of rice), broccoli, green beans, carrots, asparagus, cauliflower, etc. Whatever is on sale at the time.
I guess it seems weird not to be giving them kibble.... any thoughts????
