When feeding a puppy?

    When feeding a puppy?

Do you give them a certain amount at a feeding or fill their bowl up and let them eat till their full?

I feed Keeper a cup of food 3 times a day. But he acts starved every time I feed him. I hand feed him his supper because I do training with him then. He also gets a frozen chicken wing with lunch and it's gone in seconds while Zeeva is still eating her's 10 minutes later.

I had him on TOTW but his poop was yucky on it so I switched him to Holistic Selects Large/Giant breed puppy. We're still having poop issues.

He weighed 20lbs at 12 weeks old 2 weeks ago at his last vet visit.  He should be 65-70lbs when full grown.

I would NOT feed him until he's full. A large breed puppy should be kept skinny, and grow slowly to avoid pano and other issues. If you're having sloppy poops, it could be a sign that he's even getting too much. 3 cups and a peice of chicken sounds like a lot for a 20 lber, but I could be wrong. It's been like.... 10 years since I fed a big puppy.

I was wondering if I was feeding too much! I know large breed puppies should be kept skinny but I hate thinking he's starving. Ahhh!! I shouldnt own dogs! They make me worry too much! Lol.

Zeeva gets the same amount and her poops are fine.

Does this look like a good weight?

Kes was a bit smaller and ate about 3 cups/day until he was about 5 months.  I got him at 4 months and he was 18lbs then.  Kes is 15 months now and still gets 2 cups of food per day; he's 35lbs now.

OMG he is so cute. Every picture I see. He does not look pudgy at all, to me. I see ribs, and a shadow of hip bone, even (which I don't consider a bad thing, at all).

You can feed him from toys, to make it last longer, and use frozen Kongs (kibble and water works fine, seriously). That will satisfy him more than eating it from a bowl in under a minute. Also, it will help you wear him out a little!

Can you believe this? He doesnt like peanut butter! I made him a kong with kibble and peanut butter. He wouldnt touch it. He didnt even want to smell it! I had to give it to Cheyanne to get it cleaned out.

That's the part I hate! The hips showing. But Lillie was the same way so Im not flipping out about it like I was with her.

Just, let him be a puppy, with the hips:)

I wouldn't be giving him peanut butter and chicken and yogurt and everything else, if he's having tummy troubles. Just dampen the kibble with water. It will freeze together.

Is that your new baby!  I haven't been around much and missed seeing him.  So cute.  Cash is now 14 weeks and I am feeding him 1 cup three times a day and like you, he is starving all the time.  I give him a tablespoon of yogurt with his breakfast and he cries with delight.  I have had to give him an extra meal many days because if we are at the dog park or out running around he comes in and starts freaking out for food.  Scratching the cabinet and flipping his bowl.  I figure it's fine since he is looking just right and not overweight.  He is growing slowly as well.  Keeper will be around the same size as Cash it sounds like.  Best of luck with your new family member.
