Trying to lean Brutus down a bit

I've been mixing in shredded carrots and kale into my bulldogs diet recently at only about a 10% ratio.  Cooked and finely chopped then mixed and he seems to not mind.  Is that a good way to address weight reduction in addition to daily good excercise?  He's portly but not real overweight....just a little thick.  Is 10% a good ratio or are there other veggies that are better?  Thanks

kale is awesome -- it's literally almost the *perfect* veggie.  But carrots?  they're ok, but ANY orange veggie is superb.  all the squashes, sweet potato, turnip, etc.

Don't limit yourself to just one or two.  make it a variety -- again cooked/processed -- the big deal is so they don't have to break down the cellulose.  And you can go higher than 10%.  My dogs get about 30-40% meat and the rest veggie.  They get no grain at all usually.

Green beans usually are a hit and can often stand-in for a treat.

Adding veggies is great, & you can use a huge variety depending on what Brutus likes.

If you feed kibble, you can also look at interactive toys to feed him from.  When we fed kibble, I found that it was easier to cut back someone's food, without them noticing, if they were having to work to get their food.  The buster cube, & kibble nibble were favorites here.

If he's food motivated, you can stuff a Kong toy with veggies and kibble, and freeze it. Mine LOVE that, especially in the summertime. They like unsweetened applesauce, canned pumpkin (plain, not the pie filling with added sugar), and frozen berries the BEST. Those are big treats, when we're at home.
