    Some Aussie UD obedience

    Hi

I promised on a couple of postings to post some videos of training in Aussie UD which i do with my poodle Luci. Here it is

    http://s587.photobucket.com/albums/ss311/deniscody100/LuciLuci%20UD%20training/

Here are some notes. The seekback is done with an article similar to the articles that are used for SD. The only criterea for the dog continuing the excercise is that it must be "working". They can cross ring ropes and yes there are some hassles for the dogs in the next ring. In this video Luci has to put up with a pretty stiff cross wind, and follows the air scent over the rope and then back again.

Directed Jumping. This excercise brings more trainers to their knees than nearly any other. The box is no help what so ever, stick to your marker!. Many of us actually teach to go to a marker and then put the ****** box around it.

Articles: The articles are quite different from the US dumb bells. They can be quite hard for the dog to pick up. The metal is a piece of aluminium tube. You have to do  a metal, a leather and a wood. I proof for x winds, food smells on the steward, bottle top markers etc

Not all of our grounds are that crash hot, and indoor trials are very rare. You need to train on rough ground.

Against my better judgement i put in the signals video. It is not us at our best. I really stuffed a fair bit of it up. I find heeling very difficult. She loves to heel and offers it as a way of getitng a treat..

Luci is a multi sports dog who will be 4 in mid Feb. She is a tracking Champ and trains in agility. she could compete but we are hunting that UD title. My goal is scores of 190+ and a happy dog that is just keen to do her stuff. She is a very consistent performer at open level.

I am a positive trainer. I have used P- on two excercises, the seekback where she sometimes decides that the birds look interesting. and the box where she thought at one stage that once is enough and if i wanted her to do two then i should start walking.....

    She is reliable in stays.

He name is modular. Normally Luci is short for Lucibelle, but sometimes she justifes the second option Luci (fer).

He nicknames are "the black flash", Madame, and Her Majesty. :) If you saw her outside the ring there would be no doubt how she earned the nicknames.

All the "rules" are broken. She sleeps on the bed, and i wish she would go out the door first. I let her win the tuggie quite often and she often sits on my lap at trails.

I haven't had a chance yet to watch the video. But I am curious, how is sitting on your lap at trials, breaking the "rules"?

It is a poor sort of humour :) You know if she slleeps on my bed and sits on my lap and wins at tuggie then she will take over the world :))

I'm not going to critique your scandalous disregard for the rules. Stick out tongue  However, I gotta say how awesome it is to see a guy handling a Poodle and being proud of it;-)  What I saw was a ***joyful*** dog!!!!

    Hi

This is vaguely off topic, but Luci was originally a comprimise dog. Firslty it was agreed with much deabte that we would have a standard poodle. Then is was felt that a standard would be too big for our house and may be a mini would be better. In the spirit of willingness i said i would have a ****** useless dam mini and we got one. :) After 1/2 an hour i figured she was not too bad...Smile

After Cadbury died, i went shopping for a sire and dam for my next puppy,  a toy or mini.  Some how i managed to get a full on entire adult male through the door. Now that took some talking.. To be honest i wouldn't have a standard now, i prefer the mini temperamet.

When i first got Luci, i would hang around the back of the puppy class. In this class were some women from an area that had long since seen better times. One had a pittie and the other a backyard GSD. I think they came along together so that they could share their handling skils between them, heaven knows neither of them had enough for their own dogs.Having  a poodle and being a bloke well they made up their own minds and figured wrong. They spent the best part of a class camping it up as if i wasn't there. Afterwards I gave them some instruction on their handling skills in a vocab that seemd to suit them. The good bit about using such a vocab is that it never streches ones imagination or mental faculties. One of my lesser known qualities is being diplomatic :)

Normally i have Luci is a bright pink collar and lead. Most triallists know Luci and her propensity for getting in a low blow first.  I once overheard a triallist with a GSD tell a newbie "now don't go anywhere near that ***** poodle in the pink collar . She thinks that GSDs are ***** target practice!!!"
