A relative of mine is having one of their grass-fed cows butchered, and they have said I could have some of the bones for my dogs. However, I'm not really sure which bones to ask for. Any suggestions?

As long as your dog isn't a "gobbler" as in tries to see how fast he/she can eat the bones; any bone is fine. The most commonly occurring bones that I feed would be chicken backs and pork/beef ribs.I personally prefer feeding bones such as ribs because you know he is actually eating and gaining the nutrition rather than just chewing. However that is just my opinion. And I am quite sure any will be great. Just make sure that you supervise ;]

Ribs ARE nice, but she might want to keep those!
The leg marrow bones and KNUCKLE bones are fabulous!! Ask for the heart too.....few people eat heart and it's a wonderful source of taurine if you feed it raw!

Yes, please, would be my answer. Any bone they aren't using, cut into manageable peices by the butcher (2-6" would be my choice, something for everyone). Hooves, horns, tail included.

Any they aren't going to use! Just make sure they are big enough to prevent the dog from trying to really EAT them. We raise our own beef as well, and Rusty gets all the bones that are left over. Put them in the freezer and the frozen bones make nice treats and it takes them longer to chew off the meat that way. He loves them!
