I have been battling skin and ear infection issue's with him for a long time now, to long, so I am going to have him tested for Hypothyroidism. He has all the classic signs but weight gain, if anything he could use some extra weight. I will send the blood to Dr. Dodds for the testing.
To top that off because of all the medications I strongly suspect I have a very bad case of yeast candida. The poor thing itches ALL. THE. TIME.
Bathing does not help anymore, except to get rid of the smell and more serious itching for a few days. I have taken to rubbing him down with a neem soap, ketoconazole wash, tea tree oil, baking soda mixture. I basically just brush it or wipe it onto his body. I am treating his ears with a vet scribed solution to keep them under control.
Right now he is thin or I should say his hair is thin. I am not worried about balance in the diet for a few weeks. I need to get the yeast under control so that means nothing with sugar for right now. To be honest I believe the imbalance of yeast in his GI is causing, to a degree nutrition loss due to toxins, which is why I am not going to bother with it. I will cross that bridge after I get his blood work up back.
I have read to feed 2 to 3 % of body weight. He weighs on average 75lbs. So if my calculations are correct I need to feed him 1.5 to 2.25lb of meat and organs a day? I can add in yogurt and eggs.
I currently have a freezer full of meat. I have chickens, steaks, liver, turkey, pork and buffalo meat. I have a source for fish in several varieties and goat meat. I am also currently looking for a good yogurt with no sugar. I can make it, but it takes time. So if anyone has a good brand please let me know.
Suggestions to help me out? I am thinking this diet for at the least 1 month, I should have the blood work back by then. And lord have mercy and doG forgive me but I hope it is Hypothryroidism, because then I at least have a reason for this. If not, then it is back to the drawing board.
thanks.
