Oatmeal in Kibble?

    Oatmeal in Kibble?

So I've been feeding TOTW for about 1/2 a year now and I want to switch Tyson to another brand, just to change it up a little as I heard they can develop food allergies if he eats the same kind of kibble for too long. I'm looking into Wellness, Wellness Core, and Solid Gold. I don't remember where but I read that oatmeal is one of the "not good" grains used in kibble. I'm wondering if thats true since I looked at the above brand's ingredients for a couple of their kibbles and most of them have oatmeal in it.

oatmeal is a good ingredient. it's easily digestible and good for dogs with a sensitive stomach.

If oatmeal isn't a "good grain" then I don't know what is. It's one of the last ones I'd suspect if grain allergies were in question. It's high in several nutrients that make it easier to digest than most small grains (only corn and white rice, are more digestible, if I remember correctly).

It's also expensive and not profitable to "fractionate" (ie, it's usually sold in whole form not fractions like hulls, flour, protein or gluten, or mill runs).  So when I see it as a main ingredient (which it almost never is any more), I feel confident that food quality and integrity is being put above the share members' profits.

As mentioned above, oatmeal is a good grain. Are you maybe confusing it with another one?

I too prefer oatmeal or brown rice over many of the other grain alternatives.

Unfortunately, Rivers can't have anything with oats, period....his ears will turn red instantly.

The only grain he can have is brown or white rice; which leaves me very limited for foods.

For now, he's doing excellent on Cal natural lamb/rice puppy food.
