Spending limit on dog food.

    corvus
5kg of chicken mince, 5kg of beef mince and 10kg of roo tail for a total of about $52,

That's not bad at all. 44 lbs of meat for $52. Averaging $1.18 per pound. The hard part is conversion to american dollars. Current value has the american dollar lower than the aussie dollar. 52 aussie dollars equals about $76 american dollars ( 1 Aussie Dollar = .68 USD). In american terms, that would be $1.72 per pound, which still isn't bad.

It's really not bad, LOL. Meat is expensive, here! I wish I could get red meat for under $2 a lb. I have to really hunt for those prices. Of course, we don't get pet grade meat, here. That's all sold to the dog food companies.

Yeah, I would be in a bit of trouble if we couldn't get pet grade meat. Most of what I buy is pet grade. I tracked down all the local regulations about pet meat so I would know what the difference was. I have to say a lot of the stuff I get from pet stores isn't bled well and can be a bit smelly. My new supplier I get everything from in bulk home delivers and the meat is much better processed (despite bits of hide), and it comes with no added preservatives, which is always nice. We have a problem over here with pet minces containing a preservative that blocks thyamin absorption, I think it is. Anyway, serious problems for animals living on that.

Before we found cheap suppliers, it was costing me more like $30 a week to feed raw. I would have been able to maintain that, but I'd rather the cheap stuff!

Damn financial crisis. The Aussie dollar was buying 95 US cents just a couple of months ago. Most things tend to be dearer, here, but fresh produce is the exception. And I'm loving kangaroo meat. You can buy human grade, now, and it's exceptionally good for you. And better for the environment. Just don't think about how the poor things died.

OH! I know this one since I just bought dog food this morning! 34$ for a 20lbs bag of Cal Nat Herring and Sweet Potato. That lasts Maze a month and a half so it's worth the money. Kameo gets No Name cat food at the moment since all the other brand names made him sick and made his coat dull. I might switch him to EVO when I get my kitten since thats what s/he'll be on.

i spend about 500 RMB for a 15 kg bag. that's about 83 US $ for 30 pounds. it lasts 2 months for 2 dogs, so it's not too bad. and of course is the only thing that seems to work for moca, so not like i have a choice...

I'm not sure what the limit actually is. I'd personally like to keep it under or around $600 per month. To me that is reasonable. DH doesn't seem to balk at more like 7 or 800, but then again I don't think he always sees the big picture because I'm the one who keeps track of expensive. I do raw and some also get kibble. So as far as kibble I can't see paying more then around $40 for a 30lbs bag, which still leaves me with good options in that price range Wellness, Merrick, Fromm and some others. For meat I like to use my own which are raised on good diets, I know whats gone in them. Meat I buy I like to keep between 0.50-1.80 per lb. It is only right to budget and cut cost on dog food because there is other animals to feed + ourselves.
