Surprisingly enough oatmeal and barley don't bother her but everything else does.. She's been eating Lamb and Oatmeal with no problems*sigh*  She loves the Californa Natural Herring and Sweet Potatoe and Nature's variety Potatoe and Fish (I think). So trip to the pet store tomorrow..

Oatmeal and Barley are considered a Cool carb , they do not feed tumors and cancers.  Potato is another  cool carb. Corn, Wheat, Soy and Rice are all hot carbs, you can watch certain tumors grow aggressively when a dog is fed these.

*blinks* I did not know that! Thanks! Is that probably why Maze doesn't have a reaction to Oatmeal and Barley?

I just learned something new today! Lol.

ARe you sure on the oatmeal?  Or maybe it's a different discipline I"m thinking of.  I've been told that oatmeal's "hot" while barley is "cool" as in better to feed in opposing seasons.  And indeed, my working dogs always did well when I did barley-based diets in the summer and oatmeal in winter.  But again, they are Border Collies and this is the diet they would have had in the hills - where barley is eaten commonly in summer and oats in winter.

Maze is part border collie so would that sort of diet have an effect on her? Hmm.. Now I'm really curious..

Well I'm buying a small bag of the Cal. Nat Herring and sweet potato today so here's hoping. I am really considering homecooking for her in the winter when I'm working better. *sigh*

Oatmeal is hypoallergenic. That's why it's used in products like Aveeno. There are plenty of grain free foods out there. I think your best option would be to go raw though.  There are so many choices for raw... lamb, venison, buffalo, ostrich, rabbit, duck, turkey, beef, goat. You can either do pre-made or buy your own at the butcher, supermarket or by mail order. Stay away from the gimmicky stuff like Stella 'n Chewy's and opt for more basic brands like Bravo or some of the mixes you can find online that are meat or meat/veggies only w/no vitamins or supplements added.

"Hypoallergenic" means "lots of folks tolerate this one fine". It doesn't mean you can't react to it. Emma is allergic to oats. Some people who are allergic to dogs are allergic to Chinese Cresteds, Poodles, and other "hypo" breeds. I've use hypo dog shampoos that *I* reacted to, as the groomer.

It doesn't mean a darn thing to the individual.

I'd love to go raw but in my situation right now, I can't afford it. The prices of meat here (any kind) is so over the top, I'm having problems buying it for the humans in my household. Lol.

Maze is doing fine on the Herring and Sweet Potatoe so I'm going to keep her on that for now.
