My Dog Lived To Be .......

I know a Dachshund who is 20 years old. She's constantly infested with fleas, and her teeth are rotting out of her head. Her mouth is very painful, and she's shamefully thin, because of it. She's eaten Ol Roy her entire life. Her owner switched her to pouched food when it became too much for her to eat the dry. Quantity=/=quality.

My mom's little mutt-butt is 14 years old. Right now, he's running around the room barking like a crazed puppy. He's got a little old man gray beard, but he's in astonishingly  good condition. He's eaten table scraps, supplemented with grocery brand canned food, for most of his life. The canned food stopped, and crock potted food (with supplements added, by me) replaced it in recent years. I can't really say he's any better or worse off than he was, just that he's fatter. He keeps getting fatter, and fatter, and fatter. Poor dog. She overfeeds him, by a good bit.

Oh, and my best friend's mom raised a GSD mix on Ol Roy. He ate canned food in his later years, and for about the last year, she made him chicken and rice with veggies and joint supplements. He lived to be almost 17. He was around 75 lbs, in his prime, but he had nasty hip dysplasia, and was kept very, very thin by the time I met him.
