    Switching to adult food

How old should my pup be before he is switched to an adult formula? I've heard a lot of different things, and i'm quite confused. He looks to me like he is a little bit chubby...i think that adult food may slim him down a bit. He's 7 mos right now and eats large breed puppy food.

I wait a year with my pups. If you think he's getting chubby give him more exersice. Do you free feed him?

I changed to adult food at around 6 months.

At six months your pup has only beened weened for a several months and stillneeds the nutrients puppy food delivers.
    I say ask your vet

I would say 1 year old.  Or you could just switch to an All Life Stages food and feed appropriatley.  That's what I did.  It took away all the confusion.

Small dogs: 1 year switch to adult food
Big dogs: 7 to 9 months switch to adult food (but increase amounts as needed)

Or All Life Stages and follow the directions- usually means feeding more food and/or more frequently throughout the day.

Not sure what I will do in the event I ever get another puppy (will be years from now).  I love what PetGuard is doing for my guys and it's all life stages. The kibble size is a bit big for little dogs but my poodle had no problems with it.

All life stages is what my vet says.

I wish that innova made an all life stages...it would make everything easier for me! :)

The bright green bag IS all life stages.

I don't feed puppy food. I fed Emma puppy food for a bit, but it disagreed with her. Of course, now I know that it was too much protein....

I've raised every foster pup since her on all life stages food, and they've done fantastically well. Grew into wonderful, big dogs.

Dweezil is almost 9 months ... I switched her to adult food about a month ago -- our vet said that they say at 8 or 9 months you can begin to switch over (slowly) if you want to.  She loves her adult food a lot more, anyway...
