    but it's hard to find them with all the meat cut off,

    You can cut the meat of yourself if you must.Why cant you give your dog raw?

    I also felt like I have "had it" with some of the holistic companies...I feed Royal Canin now and feel much more comfortable about the consistency of the formulas

       Do you think the problem you and some others have experienced with holistic foods may be because some of these companies don't make their own food? Besides Diamond making TO, they also make Natural Balance and some members have posted about finding greasy, odd colored kibble in bags of Natural balance Duck and Potato. I have fed Jessie the Eagle Pack Holistic foods for over a year and have never noticed any differences in the kibble such as color or smell; Sooner found a few pieces from their power formula in a bag of the fish but that's the only incidence I've heard of . They make their food in their own plant ( an APHIS plant) so obviously if there's a problem they will be able to catch it quickly. Solid Gold is also made by Diamond and I've never seen any complaints about it but I still think having someone else make their food may explain why there are problems with some of the holistic brands.

    I've never fed Natural Balance. There was something in it that they couldn't have, so i never bothered with it. I have tried Eagle Pack, but that didn't go over to well.
    That's why the vet suggested a prescription formula or a food without a lot of ingredients, too rich for the tummies.[:)]

    Monzie; I hope you find an answer soon ; I know when you have a dog with IBD it's hard to find something that agrees with them. Jessie doesn't have IBD but there are foods she can't have; she is allergic to chicken ( makes her itch); food with corn gives her loose stools several times a week and food with venison gives her diarrhea. Fortunately she's not a picky eater ( actually she's a glutton), and does very well on the Eagle Pack Holistic formulas, except for the one with chicken of course.  If Science Diet is what it takes to keep Dusty healthy then don't feel bad about feeding it; feed whatever Dusty will do well on. I've been racking my brain for a good quality simple kibble and I'm not coming up with anything but California Natural, Natural Balance, or Wellness Simple Solutions.

    What is it about Natura foods that Dusty can't have?
    • Silver
    Solid Gold has Bison formulas too.

    Thank you for thinking so hard for us. All the products from Natura go right through him. I used to use them a few years ago faithfully for my other 2 dogs, before Dusty, and then the food began to not agree with Peanut and Gabby refused to eat.  I did try the Evo but that was too rich.
    Well, I spoke with a lady from HappyDogHealthyDog today. She's a nutrition consultant In Delaware. I'm going to take Dusty over to her in a few weeks. anyhow she was so helpful over the phone. I did re order the Urban Wolf, and she told me some products to give him, however tonight he exploded 3 times on our walk. He only had a little to begin it again after just having burger and rice for a few days. so now I'm concerned, he just really hungry and is looking for a kibble.
    Anyhow, she told me to  add shitake mushroom to the food and try Azmira multi vitamin and from The Honest Kitchen, Perfect. She also said to curb the hunger to give a bit of organic peanut butter, goat cheese and plain yogurt(I already do that) and pineapple. So I have some things to try, but if his system got that screwed up with just the plain mix, then I really can't add this other stuff. Besides he's hungry.
     So I think i may be back to square one again, I certainly don't want to mess up his system. Those parasites probably just ate him up all inside. Oh my, now he's panting like crazy, this dog is more maintence than my children!
    Timberwolf was returned today! I'm looking more things up tonight, I'll keep you posted.
    Thanks so much for caring.[:)]

    Monzie; I noticed you do some home cooking for Dusty; the hamburger and rice. Do you know about Monica Segal? She is an animal nutritionist and will design a diet specifically for your dog. Callie says she is very good and her fee is reasonable. She will also work with your vet. Here's the link to her website;

     She should be able to formulate a well balanced diet that Dusty would do well on.

    Thanks. I'll call there tomorrow. Actually  talked to a lady today from happydoghealthydog. she's a nutritonist too and wants me to bring Dusty down to Delaware, I live in NJ. She gave me quite a bit of info. she also said I'm on track, but need to find a right combo for him. The premix urban Wolf I reordred I don't think is going to work. Mordonna replied to my post on Our dogs on line so i just wrote her, I've been trying to get in touch with her so hopefully she'll too have some suggestions. I was thinking feeding homecooked and give  some Holistic Blendz by Solid Gold at night when he whines for food at 8:00pm. But you know, i'm worried about it being made at the Diamond plant.  What do you think?
    I got my issue of Your Dog Magazine today and there's an article in there about the story behind human grade foods, of course, scares the crap out of ya.
    I'll try Monica Segal tomorrow and see.Thanks Thanks Thank You[:)]

       You are very welcome. [:D] I think it would be fine to feed the Holistic Blendz ;  this is a response from Solid Gold to a letter from a member of this forum;
                       " Thank you for your inquiry,
    Diamond makes our food in their Meta, MO and Lathrop, CA plants, not in the
    South Carolina plant where the Aflatoxin issue happened. They manufacture to
    our specifications and quality standards and the food is tested thoroughly
    before and after processing to ensure quality and safety.
    The food is tested before and after manufacture by Diamond and by Solid Gold independently."

     I suscribed to Your Dog for a few years; it's a good magazine. What did they have to say about human grade foods?
