GEEEEEZ, Billy, your trying to hurt poor Odie's feelings! We never tell Honey she is not pure golden like Buck and KayCee or that at some point someone didn't want her and took her to the pound or that she was one hour from being gassed. We just let her think she is pure gold and that we happened to want her more than any one else. LOL and as I write this she is on the bed next to my desk watching me.
LOL. Well, you're obviously kinder and gentler than I am, difficult as that is to believe. [

If you had to picture, in your mind, a spoiled, world champion type of show dog, that is Odie, when it comes to food. Not only does the food have to be right for him to eat, but the conditions have to be right. No moving around or making noise. He must concentrate as he evaluates whether or not what you have put down for him is worthy of him eating it. This process can require considerable effort and he insists on your cooperation.
But, just like mom used to do with us kids, if he doesn't want to eat what is prepared, that is fine. But he ain't getting anything else until the next meal time. Mom wasn't a short order cook and neither am I. Normally, after refusing a meal, by the time the next meal time rolls around, we could probably empty the cat's litterbox in his bowl and he would eat it.
So, back to your point, yes, once in awhile, I will have to say to him, "Ode, you're a mutt. You're damned lucky to have anything to eat, you worthless POS. I feed you the best quality food I can find and you don't want to eat it? Back to the pound with you." At this point, he will wag his tail, lay his head in my lap and beg for whatever we may be eating. He just doesn't get it. If gas wasn't $3 a gallon, I would load him in the car and carry out my threat. [
