ofhand, I can't think of a single food that has corn in it that appears to be using it "properly". I suppose a food that had ingredients like this:

chicken, chicken meal, salmon meal, corn, chicken fat.

would be acceptable, if and only if they tested and stated their corn source was free of even low levels of aflatoxins.

But for now I'm going to use it's presence in the first few ingredients as a "this is a crap food" signal.

This seems a bit backhanded---corn would be acceptable if only it didn't have this deadly contaminant.[sm=happy.gif]

Currently the acceptable amount of aflatoxin in corn destined for dog food is 20 ppb  (per the FDA) which is the same as the allowed amount in corn (and peanuts) destined for humans. (The allowable amount for some other animals is higher.)

So the corn in dog food and the peanuts in your peanut butter can have the same level of aflatoxin.

I am clarifying this so that people reading this thread (in a time when many dog foods are turning out to be contaminated) have a point of reference.

Personally I am not a fan of corn being high on the list of kibble ingredients, but I don't seem to have the strong negative reaction so many other people do.
