I'm glad to hear that your puppy is ok. It was my little dog who almost died from xylitol. She has a condition that predisposes her to have a very sensitive blood sugar level.

Xylitol is NOT an artificial sweetener. It is a natural, calorie free, sugar alcohol. It is very, very safe for humans, and is even reputed to prevent tooth decay. I will not have anything containing xylitol in my house.

Emma was playing with my mom, sitting in her lap. Mom was cleaning out her purse, and talking to Em, petting her. Em was "helping". Mom was putting things on her head, and decided to put lip gloss on her lips. Emma loved this game. After the lip gloss, Mom gave her a breath mint. It was just one. Emma is a small dog, at 17 pounds. By the time I saw the reaction, her throat was closing. I couldn't get Benedryll down her. We rushed to the ER, and she was given 50 mg of Benedryll, IV. By the time we made it to the vet's office, she was seizuring pretty hard, and trying to pass out. She was covered in hives, and her head was three times it's normal size. It was VERY scary.

I would highly reccomend calling around to all the vets in the area, and seeing who is open or who would come in after hours to treat an emergency. Your dog's life could depend on it, one day.
