A few years ago I had to have some extensive dental work done on a very old dog and I was told to give him soft food for about 3 or 4 days.  I picked up a few cans of Pedigree and I'm telling you - that stuff smelled good enough to heat and pour over rice or noodles. [:)] Of course I didn't ... but ...
