Another line of thought about the recalled food.

The New York Post is on top of the it. They have been keeping up with the deaths and ill animals due to the tainted food. They've been running stories on it and interviewing vets and getting the number of animals from city hospitals as the days go by. The last article I read a veterinarian said that she feels there will be sick animals with long term illness now due to damage they have suffered.

I kinda thought that was coming.  I saw the same thing with Proheart6.  Of the 5 dogs i know of for sure in our town of 9400 who had a reaction to it, my Hunter is dead and two others are on meds for the rest of their lives.  One in Colorado lost two of her 3 and the 3rd is on meds the rest of his life.  So goes with there is damage from dugs, poison, etc.  Bless all the sweet dear animals who have been fed this stuff and the owners who had no idea they were poisoning their animals.

And because Menu Foods is set up like an off shore corporation in Canada, your chances of getting any kind of financial compensation for the death of your pet is just about nil.  In addition, they knew about this problem with their foods due to the deaths of some test animals back in November, 2006.  That didn't stop them from selling their products.  If you want to hear the truth about this from a program that is on NPR ( so they don't have to worry about kissing up to the advertisers, check out this weekly  Radio Show from New York " Dog Talk, the Radio Show " , by the lady that wrote the Dog Bible... .   [linkhttp://www.dogtalktheradioshow.com/podcast.htm]http://www.dogtalktheradioshow.com/podcast.htm[/link]  It is show # 16 dated Mar 24, 2007.  You can listen on your PC or Ipod if you have one.  The discussion of this rat poison food is in about the  middle of the 1 hour show.  They said that the number of animals that are probably affected by this food, will probably wind up being in the 10's of thousands.

I agree with that figure.  And I agree that people will not be compenstated simply because most will not be able to prove they had fed their dogs the contaminated food.  They may be aboel to prove their dog died/got sick with the very symptons the poison is causing, but to prove it came from the food they gave their dog is something else.  Been that route, done that with proheart6 and Fort Dodge.

Hopefully this whole thing will make pet-owners more concerned about what they feed their pets, and cause them to look for more healthier alternatives.

CNN had a piece on high end pet foods last week and they interviewed the owner of a Pet food store in new York City. He was holding a bag of Innova and explaining how it was so much better than the garbage they sell in the supermarkets.  In the background you could see Solid Gold, Canidea, Timber Wolf and some other brands.  And I see that Canidea is starting National TV advertising for their products, one of their new TV  ads is on their web site.

That's good that at least some brands are getting some TV recognition. The only time I saw anything on TV about natural dog foods was a piece on PBS once, but it wasn't very long.

Just thinking about what greedy manufacturers may do with the recalled food...
Will they extrude it, sterilize it...

Many years ago, a company had to recall their ice cream.  They donated it to a(n) orphanage(s) and  took it off on taxes...

But its a very good question,,,what ARE they going to do with all that food.
TESTING it would be a good start!
