Meat past its prime: OK for dog?

So acesmom, what did you end up doing with the steak? :)

Well, I'm happy to report that Ace has been treated to some steak dinners.  I fried it all up and cut it into chunks to supplement his dinner kibble over a couple of days.  I've seen no ill effects, and I've got myself one happy dog who's having a great new year so far!

I really didn't want to waste all that meat and I decided it was mainly my squeamishness that was making me consider tossing it.  I don't eat a lot of red meat so the whole thing really creeped me out . . . but I know some guys who probably would have eaten that steak themselves, as long as it was cooked.  And I've seen Ace wolf down all kinds of super nasty stuff and not get sick, so it seemed a bit silly to deprive him of a great treat just because I was squeamish about it.  I just made sure to cook it all the way through.

So that's a happy ending -- well, for my dog anyway.  But I have to find a new grocery store for next time I want to buy a steak!

I live in the boonies and the closest village has a store that I have learned never to buy anything perishable from. I don't knw whether they just buy lower quality stuff, but I've had stuff go bad in the fridge after two days - meat, chicken, tomatoes.  I shop the co-op in the town where I work or the super wally over the mountain.
