cottage cheese vs. yogurt

We don't eat low fat ANYTHING, around here We get whole fat, organic yogurt...

With all the factory farmed milk with excess antibiotics and other stuff I think any organic dairy is better than non-organic.  I also use the whole milk organic.  The grocery store I get it from does not give me a choice in the organic, plain yogurt but I would probably use the regular fat stuff anyway.

Isn't fat less of a big deal with dogs than with humans as long as it is not a source of carcinogens (e.g. fried/grilled at high temperature)?

Yup, they use it totally differently than we do.

Of course, I am of the belief that WE need fat, too. Low fat foods are a major cause of obesity, IMO. Our brains function on fat. If we eat low fat stuff, we think we're tricking our brains, but we're not. We then crave fatty foods, again, and end up eating too many calories. If we'd just started out with a healthy portion of full fat food, we would have been fine.

Ok, I just HAVE to ask- why only plain yogurt? Murphy loves the blueberry and I thought that was good for him. Am I wrong? [:o]

Added sugar, and the chance of artificial sweeteners.

    jennie_c_d,
You really know your nutrition.  I'm impressed[:D]

Yeah, I have to watch the artificial sweeteners. None for me thanks - they give me headaches.

Not straight from the cow, usually (although I've had that before too at the "I've come for the milk" speakeasy [:D]) - Nestle makes a powdered whole milk called Nido - 25% butterfat. Not as good as right from the cow and chilled frosty, but whipped up and chilled frosty it's close. It's great for cooking as you can usually skip the butter in most stovetop recipes.

Thank you[:D] My second job is at a health food store, and my boss is a nutritionist. I started with doggy nutrition, and moved on to people nutrition. I find it utterly fascinating.... I'm trying to find some nutrition classes I can take, and see if I can't do something with it....

Ace gets plain yogurt every day.  It seems to make him less farty, and he loooooves it.

I started Jake on a spoon of yogurt in his breakfast when he was on antibiotics.  He gets a couple spoons of canned dog food in his dinner.

He'll eat his dinner no problem if we dont add the canned.  But this morning I didnt put the yogurt in breakfast and oh boy did I get the evil eye.  Then he just walked away!  He picked at it for hours.  Poor deprived baby.  I decided to put some in his dinner tonight since he'd "missed out," and he wagged so hard when the tub came out of the fridge that he about fell over.

Our pups get yoghurt or cottage cheese mixed into their food 2 or 4 times a week, and we alternate with a week of cottage cheese, then a week of yoghurt. We figured a little dairy in their diet would make it more balanced.
