Nutri Dent Chews

Oceantm, what a cute puppy. Bet he is a handful now but it will get better, trust me! My dogs love the Nutri Dent chews. These chews are not gooey or rubbery, and no green poops. Not sure if gluten is the problem with the Greenies, but I just realized that the Nylabone website says that the Nutri Dent is 99.9% gluten free. They also like the Nylabone Healthy Edibles which are bone shaped and hard. 1 bone lasts at least 4 days for my puppy, while I let my older dog consume it in 2 days. My dogs will bite the pieces that come off this bone, and it sounds like they are munching on a hard biscuit. Very crunchy. [sm=wink2.gif]

Maybe I'm wrong, but I kind of got the idea that it wasn't a specific ingredient in greenies that made them dangerous, but the fact that they could break apart - dogs could swallow pieces and get blockages from them.

It could be both.  Wheat gluten is very hard for the HUMAN body to break down, and we are better designed for it than dogs are.  If a dog swallowed a large piece of something really heavy in gluten and his body couldn't break it down, that could cause a blockage.  So it might be both a combination of size and ingredients.

I could be wrong there, I only know about it in humans.

It's the fact that they don't break down that's the issue with the product.  The other issue is that people are feeding the wrong size and not supervising.

It just stinks that I can't have fun buying her different things, either she's allergic (which of course cannot be helped) or they are garbage or they could be dangerous.  I look at things and go, nope she can't have that, it's got chicken, nope, can't have that might cause a blockage, nope, can't have that the ingredients are horrible. . .

I have the same problem with Murphy. Because of allergies, we have to avoid all wheat, corn and soy. This really limits what he can have for a treat or chew. Usually anything nice and crunchy has wheat or corn.[8|]

There is a chew called Dentee made from DermaPet for dogs with allergies.  Also, Zukes Z-Ridge Dental Bones contain no wheat or any of the ingredients you mentioned.
