Most vets don't advocate the home cooking thing. They like to sell the food they carry in their office.
The problem with making your own food is it's lacking in certain essentials dogs need. I've tried to research what that is on the internet and just got too confused trying to figure it out. That's when I decided to add vegetables to it and the dogs love it.
Before you start spending money on office visits, call around to some vets and ask if they know anything about pet nutrition and cooking your own food. Most vets don't know much about pet nutrition (in my experience). How about a holistic vet? They would be more likely to support what you're doing and suggest the necessary supplements.
Are there are pet supply stores where you are? See if they have knowledgeable staff. They might be able to recommend the right supplements so that you can carry on making their food.
Good luck!
