    Information please

I'm looking for information on these 4 diseases:

    Hemophilia - Factor X Deficiency
    Lens Luxation
    Myasthenia Gravis
    von Willebrands Disease

What tests can be done to test dogs for these? How bad are they? Can they be treated?

Basically I'm doing research on the JRT breed and am wanting to know about health testing for the breed. I'm seriously considering becoming a breeder and figured I may as well start now on the research.
    Thanks!

vWD has a DNA test, that is under $200 per dog. If you're looking into breeding JRT, have you seen terrier.com? They have a nice list of things that make these dogs "bad", genetic issues, hunting info, etc. JRT can also carry a rare disorder called cerebellar ataxia, which they just recently found a genetic marker for (check out jrt-research.com).

Thanks Jennie! I hadn't found those sites yet. Google just kept giving me BYB sites in my search. Lol

Vet Gen does genetic testing for von Willebrand.  I paid $140 when Bevo was tested last year.  If your dog is affected with vWD, there is no treatment.  If the dog is clinically affected with vWD, then you have to be careful with them.  What could be a simple wound for a normal dog will not clot in a clinically affected dog.

FWIW, I would NEVER purchase a puppy from a breeder who bred a dog that was vWD affected.

I would never breed a dog that tested positive for vWD so no worries there. Smile

Thanks for the links! Good thing I enjoy science otherwise this would be really boring. Lol
