Dental Issues again...

Rupert http://community.dog.com/forums/t/84531.aspx?PageIndex=1 seems to be having dental pain today. I got up and noticed he was licking one side of his mouth in a wierd way and sort of lifting his lip - it really looks like he's saying "ouch!" I checked in his mouth, brushed his teeth, he was a bit resistant but I can't seem to find the problem... I think there is a tiny amount of swelling just behind his nose at the top of his muzzle but it's so small neither my mother or father can really see it and I might just be seeing things - the telling feature that makes me think he's in pain is that tonight, the first night in two months he's gotten growly when the min pins invited him to play whereas before he would take them up on the invitation. He's been feeling like a pup again being on rymadil(once a day in the morning) and he's been sooo goofy and playful it's insane - his favorite playmate is the neutered male min pin and there has been no growling or aggression towards the little dogs whatsoever before tonight and his wierdness about his mouth. I also noticed the last few days he's got an increase in the goop at the corners of his eyes and he generally doesn't look like the picture of health he did two days ago. Does that sound like an abccess? What do I look for? What should I do or have the vet do? antibiotics or another dental cleaning or what? It's been 3 months since his last dental cleaning and the vet didn't want to do another one till 6 months. For some reason a tumor in his sinus immediately comes to mind as being the problem I really hope that's not it...

Thanks, will give Rupert a scritch or two for ya! It isn't the same vet, we stopped going to that one completely but it will be the vet who estimated Rupert's lifespan to be 10 to 12 years. Regardless, he's a good vet who obviously likes dogs and even likes our dogs and his work and prices are fantastic.
