    Amyltriptyline (sp)

Abbie has been on Amyltriptyline (Elavil) for anxiety for a couple of months now. 10mg every other day faithfully. She has done well on it. I haven't called the vet yet and thought I would ask here first. Should her dosage be upped to every day now? I know in humans they typically start at a lower dosage and increase to a certain point. I'm just wondering if every other day is enough for her. Does anyone have experience with this in dogs?

I don't have experience with this, but it seems to me the dosage would only need to be upped if the symptoms weren't responding.  If she's doing well on the current dosage, why change?

Don't up it unless you NEED to -- a body can become a bit resistant to it and you will need to up it if it ever stops working.  Too much and it's total sleepybye time.

In fact, sometimes with good responses you can LOWER it (with Vet approval and all that).... just dont up it by any means unless the current dose is not working, like eveyone said.
