    Another question, different dog

Maven got her 3 year Rabies late last week. They gave it to her on her right buttock. Last night I noticed she was quite off on the right hind. So I palpated it and she didn't move but stood there growling as I palpated it. I gave her a little something for the inflamation and we went to bed. Today it is visible to the eye, and much more sore.

Why? and What do I do about it?

Is this a vet mistake? Or just her bodies reaction to the vaccine and it will be just fine. I'm sure it will be fine, just unfortunate

They gave it to her on her right buttock.

They gave the shot to her on her buttock?? I've never heard of a vet doing that before! It's probably super sore because that's a muscle! Poor girl! I would call the vet who gave her the shot and let them know how she's doing and what they reccomend.

DO massage it gently.  don't tick her off -- but do massage it.  It can form a ridge where the shot was (literally a ridge will form in alignment with where the needle went in) and you want to help diffuse that.

Homeopathic thuja (about 3-4 pellets given 3 times a day for four days) will help her body deal with the aftereffects of the shot.  Don't give them in food -- just drop in her mouth -- they are sweet and don't taste at all bad -- mind think they are candy.

Where do I find these pellets, Callie? She will eat anything... literally anything. I am sure the pellets won't be a challenge even if they tasted badly.

I too was surprised by the "bum shot." I had warned them that she does object to shots.. cries like she's being brutally murdered... which is obviously not the case.

They had an army of people to assist, and they did give it in the bum without so much as a complaint. I love it when she makes a liar out of me... Contrary...

Vet's/dogs are killing me this week... oye

You can get Boiron's Thuja (homeopathic) at most any real health food store.  (anyplace that sells vitamins, herbs, supplements, etc.).  The Boiron display looks similar to a lipstick display where you pull the little tube out of the dispenser.  Call and ask if they carry Boiron -- it will save you running around.

Feel free to email me -- I can teach you enough about homeopathics for it to make sense.

    Thanks!

Well, rabies is supposed to go high up on the right rear limb....not right on the butt! Do you mean as in right on top, like next to the spine? That's weird. I mean, it's not a huge deal but that's generally not where its done because there is *too* much muscle and pain/swelling can ensue.
