Question about a possible nail injury

Not sure how to even describe this but;

Have you ever seen or heard of a dog hurting their nail bed sort of inside the toe?

Bugsy has been really funny about one of his back feet when I do his nails and I couldn't see anything wrong. Then we have had a few incidents of a single yelp - once when he was kicking back after a good poop and the other day when he seemed to catch a nail on the carpet. Early last week I saw he was bleeding and I couldn't find the source but it seemed he was bleeding from the toe right at the nail bed, yet I could not see any cut other open wound anywhere.

Can he have broken it inside his toe or detached it on the inside? He is still a little wary when I do his nails but otherwise seems fine.

There can be a slice near the quick or underneath it -- just like you or I can get a sliver under a nail or a cut and it's barely discernable but you think you've darned near become incapacitated?? And they WALK on them. You might want to soak it, you might want the vet to look at it if it persists because it could be something buried that you just can't see with your eye.

Thanks Callie I want to say that the first yelp we heard was back in June and have heard a total of 3. His nails are a little funny in that he has crooked ones and this is one of the ones that is crooked. I have looked it over, even with a magnifying glass and not seen anything but it is the only paw he is nervous/anxious about you looking at or about dremeling his nails. He is a very non-reactive dog so when i see him anxious about me touching his foot I know something is wrong. When he had that anal gland problem the vet checked his feet because I had heard a yelp that week and found nothing.

He shows no reluctance to do anything. But it is causing me much consternation as the yelps (can't recall any other yelps from the big guy) and the blood have me worried

thanks for responding and I will soak it and see if that helps anything. Mind you other than the one yelp the other night you wouldn't think anything was wrong................
