Hot Spots Suck!

    Hot Spots Suck!

Poor Indie.  He started Sunday with a slight rash that I tried to keep him from messing with.  Yesterday was crazy and I couldn't get him to the vet 'til today.  He'd worried into a good sized spot about 5 inches long by 2 inches wide on his inner thigh.  It's all raw and oozy and looks terribly painful.  He flinched a bit when I put on the ointment the vet prescribed and as he lies sleeping, that leg twitches so I know it hurts.  I feel so bad for him!  I hate hot spots!!!

Ugh, I hate them too and especially the speed that they can pop up. I hope the meds help Indie feel better soon.

Awwww poor Indie.  I've had a lot of success using tea tree with dogs with hot spots.

We're not even sure it's a hot spot at this point.  The ointment the vet originally prescribed made him break out in pustules and the area looked even worse.  So now we've stopped that and put him on an oral antibiotic.  It seems to be drying out and healing up now.  Wish I could figure out what started it.  Only thing I can connect it with was the Frontline I applied which made him itchy all over (or seemed to) and he found that one spot to really work at.  But the spot where I put the Frontline showed no irritation at all, so I can't be 100% sure it was that either.  Very frustrating because now I'm not sure what to do about flea/tick prevention and he'll be due for another dose in about a week.  For now, the vet said leave his skin alone and don't irritate it (no bath, no brushing, etc.) until we're sure what this is.  Sad
