Outie?

    Outie?

I have noticed the past week or so that Lex seems to have developed an "outie" belly button. It is very firm and doesn't seem to be causing him any pain or discomfort. Is it something I should be concerned about? Is it common for dogs to develop these later in life(he will be 2 in December)?

    Thanks!

I know I'm not much help but do dogs really have belly buttons?????? Where are they???? I know I don't really know much about that subject lol.

Show it to your vet.  It might be an umbilical hernia, a delayed closure, or just a protuberant umbilicus.

Or depending on exactly where it is, it could be something else -- those things don't usually happen 'later' -- I would have my vet look at it a.s.a.p. and if it changes AT ALL   the two weeks following go right back.

Here's another link on umbilical hernias-----some breeds are more prone than others, one being the Airedale.

Likely a vet visit is order, just to be sure.
