jack russell brushing ???

i know NOTHING about grooming, but would love to know what the general rule is when it comes to grooming a broken-coated jack.... i wish i knew which kinda brush to buy to brush her with to try and reduce the amount of hair that ends up on my (dark hardwood) floors!!! when i sit on my couch the furbunnies nibble at my ankles!!! lol

my neighbour, who is a groomer, suggested a furminator- and tried to use it on her once, but Zoey hated it! and i guess it's pretty easy to cut them with it too right? i'm sure i could train her to bear with me while i do it, like i did with clipping her nails (clicker training ROCKS!)... but is there another way or another style of brush to use?? she's just got a slightly thicker/longer coat on top of her back and short everywhere else, with the typical broken coat fluff on the neck (and the cutest little beard fluff lol)

I card Emma's coat (using a modified clipper blade, same concept as a furminator). She loves it. I also use a Zoom Groom, as well. She sheds very, very minimally. I also bathe and force dry her once a week. I feed her a raw diet, with skin supplements, and that helps a lot, too.

i just came in from letting zoey run around with her best friend (and neighbour) joe the newfie, and talked to his mom about what to use when brushing zoey (she's a groomer) and she pulled out a bunch of tools, including her furminator knockoff (her friend had her real one)... and it worked MAGICALLY! it was really good, and did the trick.

the best part is, that she will buy me one at cost next time she's at work- yay!!! :) can't go wrong with that, especially since it seems to be the only one that works! what a pretty girl she is heehee

so a notice to all jack russell lovers: FURMINATOR, expensive but totally worth it!

Just curious, what part is "broken?" They really should just be DULL blades.

One of the teeth, on the end, is broken. I have.... 5 #40s with the same issue. I quit buying them, and switched to #30s. The 40s are great for carding, though. I took them apart, and saved the screws and even the back of the blades, in case I decide to use 40s again, sometime.

Jennie is right about the 40 BLADE being a great carding tool. When you disassemble the "blade" you'll have multiple parts, but the two you think of as the blade are the CUTTER (the smaller back piece that moves when the clipper is on) and the BLADE (the part that goes against the dog when using). Alot of times, the cutter teeth will break off and once this happens, the "blade" isn't usable anymore. BUT, if you disasemble it, you can use the component parts by recycling them :) Save those pieces incase you get a "blade" that needs a new hinge, spring, or has a missing screw!

Stripping knives are relatively inexpensive and affordable however, and tend to produce a better finish, not to mention easier to control.

i used my neighbour's ripoff furminator and i really love it! i used it on my cats and it works so well!!! while zoey lets me do pretty much whatever to her, the cats are a little wiggly...

is the offer to send me the blade by itself still available? i think it would be so much easier to brush the cats without the handle in the way.

just lemme know if there's any shipping or anything, international costs or whatever...

I use a furmanator brush on my three( it works so good) I bought it at Petsmart a few years ago and I've tryed every brush there is Til I got this one!

You can buy a brush as per your need. You can it from Pet shops. Don’t buy the hard one, instead go for the softer.
