Short toenails

    Short toenails

I like a pretty dog foot..  I don't often get to see it, mind you, since I have two older boys who would sooner die than have their feet handled (Legend tolerates it, but you have to hold him down and, with his arthritis, it's uncomfortable for him to be held down for too long. So, I just do a simple quick trim rather than taking my time dremelling) and I'm working on Ginger's, but it's a slow process getting her quicks worn back now than I have a dremel again. They all have properly trimmed nails, mind you, just not the compact short ones I preferStick out tongue

With the pup, though, I'm going to have my pretty feet, darn it!  Since doing anything that requires sitting still is a chore to him, I figured I'd go all out and teach him to lie still for the dremel. He doesn't do too badlySmile  How often should I dremel to get the nails nice and short and then keep them that way? Currently I do at least once a week..two feet one day and the other two feet the next. His front nails are especially coming along nicely

Normally I do nails ONCE a week Period.... BUT ...Tongue Tied    with the 5 grandkids getting out for the summer,  Kota's minor surgery , Jasmine's major Surgery, Kota's Pit Bull Fight , and then commiting 10000000000% to making sure he did not carry any more residual angst or anger than need be.... It has been TWO MONTHS !! My pack looks like eagle talons and I have 3 weeks to get them back down before the next outing then 3 weeks before the Nationals !!

Arrrrrghhhhhhhhhhhhh I feel like Charlie Brown flying a kite!!

I dremel my dogs' nails three times a week. I've done it, with Ena, since I got her. Now, she's standing on the table, tolerating it just fine. Their feet are gorgeous! There is no white showing, ever. I whack them back, visibly, with a pretty high speed tool.... I do not like toenails, at all. I don't have the heart to whack them off with clippers, so I dremel obsessivelyWink

Chinese Cresteds are known to have naturally longer quicks (they have a hare foot, as opposed to Emma's tight, pretty, cat feet). Ena's nails will be very close to gone, before I'm ready to show her. As of right now, I showed them to a Crested breeder, last week, and she was shocked... They're about.... 3/8" long.

Guess am lazy? I trim my cresteds about every 2-4 wks, can tell am relaxed about it. They all tolerate it quite well as have pretty much given them no choice in the nail trimming routine. They are normally kept on the long side and think read it in one of my crested books.
