    Eyelashes

I prefer my girl's eyeashes long and have asked our groomer not to trim them, but every once in a while they are trimmed way down. Sometimes I decide to trim them a tiny bit, but the long lashes don't seem to bother them. What do you guys do?

Do you mean the actual eye lashes or the whiskers above the eyes?

The actual eyelashes..... I think it's just a preference thing.....

Some dogs have really, really pretty eyelashes. Cockers and Shih Tzus, in particular, sometimes end up with really nice, defined lashes. I have a few customers who prefer their dogs eyelashes left long. The only problem? You have to trim the bangs, and sometimes.... you catch the lashes, even if you're super careful. The dog doesn't have to move anything but it's eyes to move the eyelashes. I suspect that's what's happening with your girls.

I have a shih tzu as well.  I think they are so pretty when they are long, but then they tend to make her eyes water.  (This in turn causes her "eye boogers";).  So I do trim them every once in a while.  I prefer to trim them rather than have the groomer do it, cause I can catch her when she's really tired and wont fidget.

I leave both my girls eyelashes long. Bella we got about a month and a 1/2 ago. I going to see how long her hair gets (as they said she was a Shih Tzu ) as her hair is so easy to keep groomed. Molly I think has a one of a kind cut. Her hair is so soft its hard to keep her mat free so I leave her face and tail long and cut the rest. She is the true lion dog. Anyway I like her hair this way and she lives with me sooooo.

Both the girls have beautiful eyelashes I don`t think I would never cut them unless they cause a problem with their eyes.

Eye boogies are one of the reasons I almost always trim them down.  I personally don't like the "dazed" expression it give the dogs, either.  It looks like they've been drugged or something, LOL!  Have you ever seen a confirmation dog shown with long eyelashes?  I seriously doubt it.  I attended a fabulous grooming seminar, and one of the speakers said that he would tell his clients that "one eyelash broke off in the tub, and I wanted them to match". I guess when you're an international grooming judge, who's mobile unit is in such demand that people pay a membership fee to make an appointment, you can be a dirty rotten liar!

I love my girls' long eyelashes.... I think that on these breeds, it looks beautiful, but that's my preference. We are lucky that neither of them have eye issues. I wash their faces and eyes at least twice per day after meals. I do think they are getting a little long now and will try to trim them a little tonight while they are sleepy. I've done it before. I just don't want them so short that they look non-existent.

there's a little dog who comes in to work who has lashes that are over two inches long..I swear it looks like a handlebar mustache. The groomer (there's a groomer in another section of the vet clinic) says the owner is always very specific to not cut them, so they're always left intact. However, she shaves the rest of the body completely down, so it looks a little bit odd

Ha Ha, that's funny!! What breed of dog is it?
