Drizzle, this does not look good.

Drizzle, this does not look good.

It definitely was not like this last week when we had our massage session.  I did not notice it this week, but this afternoon I noticed cause it started bleeding.  Drizzle always seems to have two there.  When I squeezed, blood, pus, and some kind of black and white sand material came out.  Since Tuesday, she has had the runs but yesterday and today, her poop was solid.

The pictures are after I squeezed and the area is slightly draining blood.  I cleaned the area, put Drizzle on antibiotics and I will see how it develops before taking her to the vet.  Drizzle seems not to be in any discomfort.

Never seen this before so if you think it is more serious or I should do something else, please speak up.  Drizzle is schedule for her annual checkup this Friday and we are scheduled to do hip x-rays.

You should go to the vet immediately. It could be a mammary cancer. If it's an abscess, squeezing it could make her sick. The treatment for abscesses is lancing them, squeezing them you break the capsule around them and allow the infected fluid to be absorbed in the blood stream. Continue the antibiotics and get her to the vet in the morning. I can't remember, is she the one who was spayed late?

I sure don't know David...but let me say that I am glad she is going to the vet anyway..that way he can have a look.     I agree...its looks pretty crummy...and hopefully like a lot of crummy things...they don't mean much.

    Let us know.

Vet in the morning for sure -- I've seen a 'sandy' sort of material come out of an old tick bite that I didn't catch ... it literally could be anything, but the fact that you know it was NOT there last week is a very very good thing.  You don't have to go to the vet and say "I dunno ..." because you KNOW.  It was *not* there last week.  Unfortunately dog bellies are in all of the worst places -- but that also means they can get bitten by something on Tuesday that becomes infected fast.

Good job you caught it and you won't delay.

I have no idea about it, DPU, but I want to wish you the best of luck and health to Drizzle.

Your situation with all of your dogs has truly touched me.  I will be thinking and praying about Drizzle

Ouch!  Dave I'd probably get her to the vet sooner than Friday if you and they can do it. (I am a little nervous nellie with dogs though) No idea what the cause could be, but mammary ducts can get infected and cyst like.  Please let us know how it progresses and what the vet says.

Our best vibes coming your way!

Eowwww!  It started oozing thick blood and was coming out in tubular form.  I took Drizzle to the e-vet and the vet stretched, squeezed, and felt for tumors.  On close examination the vet noted the area as being a cluster of blackheads.  She cleaned the area, applied a thick gel, and then gave Drizzle a body wrap.  She said keep her on antibiotics and give her rimadyl.   The -evet told me that Drizzle should see her vet tomorrow so my vet will be able to view the starting point of the infected area.  Over the next couple of days, my vet should be able to tell what is going on....it may dry up by tomorrow.  The e-vet said she would not take any chances and if there is the slightest, the very slightest of hint of a tumor, then remove the gland.  The e-vet said that would be up to my vet.

Thanks all for your good advise and your good thoughts.

I'm crossing my fingers it's not cancer or something major.  I have had a few strange infections that caused abscesses on my head (luckily in my hair so they weren't really seen) and you are right it's quite gross to deal with!  Hopefully it's just something that needed cleaning up and the round of antibiotics....

BEST OF LUCK to Drizzle and you Dave!  I'm sure that you got on it and her regular vet will finish off the problem and get her back to normal.

    Keep us posted...don't forget!

Geez...I just can't worry about any more Danes..........so get better Drizzle!

Thanks,  the e-vet said that Drizzle should see my vet on Monday.  I called my vet on Monday and she said she would see Drizzle on Wednesday.  So I will know more tomorrow.

I hope it is just a nasty infection that antibiotics weill clear up.  But if it is a tumor and has to be removed--my brother's dalmatian had two breast removed and live a healthy, happy 4 mjore years to age 10.  And then is was a back injury  (jumping off their high deck instgead of going down the steps) that was her downfall.
