Much depends on how much of a dose this is and how fast the vet expects this to help.

Fox also got a shot of steroid yesterday and is on some pain meds, right?

I'm not sure -- the steroids are already working in his body, but I would surely call your vet tomorrow (or did you say you had an appointment?).  It may be that not only have you just started treatment but it may be has been worsening, so I'd be patient with it.

But when you talk to the vet tomorrow, make sure you list what the second vet has given Fox AND call and have the 2d vet send your regular vet a copy of what notes the 2d vet made so your regular vet knows exactly what was done.  That's only fair to give your regular vet all the information possible.

You may want to tell them that you think the pain med isn't doing much good.

BE AWARE THO -- Tramadol will make them VERY sleepy.  If you think the fact that Fox is just sleeping all the time means he's feeling very bad -- that may not be the case.  He may be sleeping FROM the pain meds.  ON the other hand -- if he's awake and showing pain (tell us exactly what makes you think he's in so much pain -- I'm not doubting you but remember we aren't there and can't SEE what you are seeing!!) then you may want to tell your vet that too because maybe the vet needs to change the dose of Tramadol.

Tramadol is pretty much a pain med.  That's not going to reduce inflammation.

I think you *are* seeing results.   The Tramadol and the patch have Fox sleeping.  That's a GOOD thing.  Sleep helps them heal.  So if Fox just stays sleeping that's not a bad thing here.

Tell us specifically why you think he's still in as much pain as before?  It's the drugs making him sleep.

Now also -- remember you have to follow what the vet says and not decide yourself when to take Fox off the meds.  This is very important with a steroid like prednisone.  You have to do this med the way the vet says no matter what you think you see.

If you are concerned as your vet tomorrow.  Remember, we're not *there* with you.  Its the vet who is actually seeing this dog so the vet is in a better place to advise you.

Try asking your question a different way.  But I think you *are* seeing results from the meds -- that's why Fox IS sleeping.  If he was too pain-wracked he wouldn't be able TO sleep.  So sleep is absolutely the best thing for him right now.

1 ) As to pain level FOX is simplily sleeping the time away now

VET not us make the final decision for FOX care but everything has been noted espically the antibotic situation

As Calllie stated, a dog in severe pain usually can't relax enough to sleep. The fact that he IS sleeping would, to me, indicate that he's getting some relief from his discomfort

fox the dog--I'm having a hard time understanding your posts.  But, if your last post is saying that you think he's in pain because he's sleeping that's probably not the case.  He's taking a strong pain medication and that is probably why he's sleeping like that.

Isn't there anyone who can help you with Fox?
