Puppy vomiting-UPDATE

    Puppy vomiting-UPDATE

Good morning all.  I have a question about my 4 month old pup who started vomiting this week (has not done it before this week, at least since we've had him).  Monday evening he threw up shortly after dinner, but before eating his dinner, BF let him chew on a stick in the backyard (BAD BF!!), so we thought he might have ingested some pieces of wood and that might have been the cause.  The next day he threw up again after breakfast.  This morning, he did it again.  It's not always right after eating, so I'm not sure if its his food or something else.  This morning, it happened over an hour after he ate breakfast (oh, and he couldn't do it on the floor, no, he had to throw up on the couch, of course!).

His poops are solid and consistent (he poops on a pretty regular schedule), and he hasn't changed his eating or drinking behavior; his energy levels are normal for a crazy energetic Lab puppy. Stick out tongue  He seems completely fine after he throws up (and, ugh, he tries to eat it afterwards...yuk!), and does not throw up after every meal, only occasionally, but this has been three times in one week.  Any ideas here, or should I just go ahead and call my vet?

I did change food brands recently, but I mixed the two brands for several days before moving completely to the new brand.  I'm thinking maybe this is the cause.  Does anyone have any suggestions on a good brand for a 4-month old pup?  I know every dog is different, but if anyone has had success with any certain brand in their puppies, I'd love to hear about it.

I'm going to save the food recommendations for now.  This pup needs to see the vet.  A week of upchucking isn't good.  A trip to the vet NOW could save his life, or at the least, a whole lot of money in further issues.

Thanks.  Calling them as soon as I'm done typing.  He hasn't done it every day this week, only once Monday, once Tuesday, and once today, but it's definitely enough to have me concerned.

Took Harry to the vet on Friday, x-rays were clean (no obstructions), thank goodness.  No parasites either.  Vet thinks it was his current food.  Put him on some I/D for the weekend, and he is doing well.

So, I think we can move on to food recommendations, if you guys don't mind helping me out.  Vet recommended Iams, but I'm open to suggestions.  Harry is 4 months old, so something appropriate for a young pup.

     Thanks!

Check out the nutrition section here - there are a ton of better foods out there.

The people that reply in that section are very knowledgable about their foods.

I would say a food change is probably in order. I've had the pack on certain diets that were hard to digest or otherwise caused them to upchuck on a regular basis. Try a bland "no frills" kibble for him and see if that doesn't help. BTW, most times, parasites do not show up in the fecal tests, unless they were in that particular sample. We had an infested bitch several years ago, her stools were coming up negative, so we didn't realize her problem was worms until she upchucked a family of live roundworms Ick! I would go ahead and worm the pup with Evict or Nemex anyway, if the Vet already hasn't done so ...
