Special whitening (and blackening?) shapoos question

Special whitening (and blackening?) shapoos question

I know there are special shapoos made for white coats, to make them whiter/brighter.   Then there's also special shampoos for black coats, for I guess the same purpose.  I have a black and white dog...so would it be ok to use either of those kinds of shampoos on her?  What I mean is, say I want to use the whitening one, obviously I'm going to get the shampoo on the black parts too.  Will that have a negative effect on the black hair?  Same question if I wanted to use the black one...would that 'hurt' the white parts?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I really want to use the whitening shampoo b/c on her legs (should be white) is stained from clay from when she used to be a barn dog and wouldn't get in out of the rain and would just lay in the wet clay.

ETA: The dog I'm talking about is Pooch...in my signature she's in the far right bubble.  Are vet is pretty sure she's a Lhasa Apso (she works w/ a Lhasa breeder as well as at our clinic) possibly pure bred, but at least mostly Lhasa, just to give you some more info.

I know that the whitening shampoo is fine on the whole dog, but I'm not sure about the blackening.  Somebody should come along soon who would know.

I use Rio Vista Hi Ho Silver, horse shampoo on Josie, she is the parti in my avatar, it works great on her whites although it may take a few shampoos and it really brightens her colors and it rinses out very well.  You do have to be careful some whitening shampoos will dull other colors.....they do usually state not to use on colored areas.

I haven't tried these products myself, but will be this show season on luna.

Chris Christiansen White on White and Black on Black. Use the black first, and then the white. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the suggestions Lhasa and P_P_A.  Where can I get this products?  Is there a website?  Also for the Chris Christiansen...is it ok to use each product all over or should I try (not sure if I can) to keep it only on those areas?

    Thanks a bunch

The Rio Vista can be used all over and works really nice on colors-gives a nice deep color.  You can search for a Rio Vista retailer at   http://www.riovistaproducts.com/dealers/deal.html  I get mine at the local feed mill, same place has the dog food I feed.

I have used the CC white on white, you can use it all over, I didn't have the same results as the Rio Vista and you need to rotate so the white doesn't get a blue tint, not sure about the Black on Black have not tried it.

For the Black on Black, I will only use that one the dogs black areas. Then I 'd use the white on white on white areas. Due to my dog's marking I can wash her this way without really getting the white on the black parts of her, but it's also not going to hurt if the white on white rewashes some of her darker areas.

     Hope that helps!
