    What dryer to get?

Hi all.  I'm looking for a dryer for my dog and was wondering what dryer you would recommend.  More importantly what hp motor.  My dog is a husky, so lots of fur.  Thanks for your input.

I have a K9 II dryer that I use on my husky. It has 2 motors and works great. It is very expensive brand new, though. I bought mine used for a third of the cost.

It has already paid for itself in the money I've saved from having my husky groomed. I also have 2 aussies so the money spent was well worth it. If I had to buy new I'd probably go with a metro dryer or something similar.

I have a 4 HP metro air force and love it. It's in the more affordable price-range and does a great job on my Aussie, and has two speeds. It was recommended by one of the groomers on this forum and was great advice!

Thanks for the advice.  I looked at the K9 and the metro, and the metro seems more in my price range.  How loud is the metro air force?  Hand hairdryer, vacuum cleaner or lawn mower loud?

    Vacuum cleaner, I think.

Well that will be fun to get him used to.  He is terrified of the vacuum.  Wink

Jewilee, I notice in the picture it says "Hot".  Is it really hot?  Is there a way to turn the heat off?  I'm considering getting one used since reading the other thread about how well these blow out their coats.  I vacuum my two but it doesn't seem to be as thorough as these forced dryers might be.

It gets warm, not hot. I hardly even consider it warm really. Only if you have it running for a while.

There is no heating element, the air is warmed by the heat of the motors. It never gets past warm.

Make sure you try it out before you get one, you will be surprised at the power. It can be overkill for some dogs. Small dogs and puppies can actually be blown off the grooming table.

Also be aware that it draws 17 amps, more at power up. A lot of people find that they trip the circuit breaker when they go to use it. You need a 20amp circuit that does not have anything else running on it.

Thanks for the tips!  I plan on using it outside and have a dedicated outlet there.  I'd read about some dogs having their eyes damaged by dryers in crates at groomers, so I'll be sure to keep it away from their faces.  Hope it helps cut down on the fluff in the house!  LOL!

You wouldn't use that type of dryer on a crated dog. Ever.

How do eyes get damaged by kennel dryers?

There was a story on our local news a few years ago.  A pet owner sued a local grooming shop for blinding their dog.  Apparently, a high force dryer was hooked to the door of a crate and (I think, it's been a long time) the dog's retina was detached by the force or something along those lines.  The dog had just been to the vet and was taken there right after pick up so it was pretty clear cut that something had happened at the groomers.  It caught my attention because my Airedale was groomed routinely back then.  Now, I just do all the baths and brushing myself.
