What's wrong with my baby??

    What's wrong with my baby??

My dog is a 1 year old mixed breed.  About 2 weeks ago she was acting very lethargic.  She had a big weekend so I didn't think anything of it for the first day or so.  When it continued, I called the vet who said to bring her in the next day.  By then she was acting fine, so they told me to just call if she acted weird again and they would get her right in.  She was still eating, drinking, and acting normal other than just seeming tired and lazy.

Twice this week she had an accident in the house, which she NEVER does.  She is in a crate when I am at work and she has also had accidents in there twice.  I do notice that her urine has a strong odor, but can't tell if there is blood in it.  She seems to stay sqatted longer when we are outside and dribble a little bit as she is finishing up.

I am concerned that she has a UTI.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  I plan on calling the vet in the morning, but am nervous as I wait.  I would really appreciate any advice.

    thank you!!

The vet is really the only way to go.  But in the meantime, if you can get her to drink some cranberry juice, real stuff, not sweetened mixed with other cocktail kind.  If it is a bladder infection or a UTI it'll help a bit.  My dogs drank it mixed with water... some will though some wont...

i agree, get her to that vet ASAP. she could have anything from a UTI, stones, or a kidney infection.... and probably other problems that i cant think of. they're all painful and can all lead to death if left untreated.

might also want to ask your vet about UTI-Free.. http://www.nativeremedies.com/petalive/uti-free-urinary-tract-infection-cats-dogs.html

thanking my lucky stars and knocking on wood i've never had one of MY dogs get a UTI... but i myself have had several of them.. they're horrible!!

It's pretty hard to get dogs to drink cranberry -- but you CAN give them cranberry caps (Cranactin is the best brand I've found - pricey but super good quality).

D-Mannose is also superb -- it's kind of cranberry ramped up to the next level (and you CAN give both).

Both cranberry and d-mannose are forms of glucose.  The sugar binds with infection cells and literally makes them too 'slick' to stick to the walls of the urinary tract.

HOWEVER -- this is not going to *treat* a uti.  That takes antibiotics.

DON'T wait until you see blood.  That's a bad thing.  (It means it's very dangerous and TERRIBLY painful)

The fact that it's a strong odor alone is *enough* reason to seek help.  The fact that the dog is having accidents is also enough reason.
