Yay! I love small town vets!

Crusher and Onyx are both going under the knife on Monday to be spayed and neutered.  Crusher will be $78 and Onyx will be about $220 and only because she is in heat.  I know I know, not the best time to do it, but keeping Crusher away from her is proving more and more difficult, plus the one drawback to this town is that there are A LOT of loose dogs around.  They seem to be coming out of the woodwork and I'm worried that one of my dogs will suffer for it, if I leave her intact.  Either by her getting pregnant or Crusher fighting with one of them.  One is a very large black shaggy thing that has already challenged him.  Besides Clayton doesn't have qualms about it so I feel ok with the decision.  He will charge about an extra $50 for it, because of the extra precautions he will take with her, but its pretty routine.  I can't help but feel this may be because of the nasty habit people have of letting their dogs roam around here.  It really is very overwhelming to try to let my dogs out, one at a time to pee and have to try to time it when there aren't any other dogs outside.  And forget taking one for a walk...

This would have been done much much sooner, but I just didn't feel comfortable with the vets in the city.  I have never heard anything good about any surgery done there.  When Crusher was a  pup and had an inverted rectum, he was kept in the clinic for 5 days and had to go back 3 times for different related things.  I just really wasn't happy with the whole thing.  Besides the prices in the city are atrocious.  Crusher would have cost almost $400 because he was a big dog past sexual maturity.  And forget about Onyx.  I would have had to take out a second mortgage I'm sure.  And so I waited until I got here.  I just wish it would have been a week or two sooner so she wouldn't have had to go into heat at all.  My poor dogs.

So wish us well.  As confident as I am in my vets ability, I can't help but worry a little.  They are my babies after all.

Is that Canadian dollars? If so wow!!

Yuppers!  Canadian!  Although I'm a little confused by what you mean... Canadian money is now worth more than American... is that expensive down there?  Its way way less than in TBay.  And IMO very much worth it for the peace of mind I will get by having Clayton do it rather than some stranger...

Boy the exchange rate has changed!  The last I remember it was a $1c was worth .75 cents Americian.  I really hadn't looked in a while.  Now it is up to 1.07.  Still that is a good price or the operations compared to my area.

I used to be ticked getting back a canadian quarter in change when the rate was .75.  Now it is worth it to get that change and probably why I don't see retailers trying to pass them off as American quarters.

Yes there has been a drastic change in the currency rate.  So far, Canadian retailers haven't really caught up.  For instance, gas up here is still like $4 /gal.  Well... 98 cents a liter, there are 4 liters to a US Gallon give or take.  So it is almost worth it to drive the 2 hours to International Falls to get a tank of gas...Almost.  And when we do go we always get gas, even if we are almost full.  I bought a hundred feet of fencing for my dogs for just over a hundred bucks down there.  Here it would have cost me about $350.  So not everyone is happy about the new currency.  I know that the car dealerships are not thrilled.  Buying a car across the border can cost about 10 grand less.  And then all we have to pay is the 6% sales tax for the province on it to bring it back.  No one in their right minds would buy a car up here now.  And I don't know anyone that wants to do Christmas shopping up here this year...

Ah well... that went off topic...LOL.

3 More Days...sigh... at least we are at the point in Onyx' heat where I can take the dogs out together and Crusher will pay attention to his own body's needs before just immediately trying to jump on her...Huh?  And he is eating again!  Yay!  My poor deprived boy...Stick out tongue

Just a little more off topic.  Do you know what have fueled the drastic change in the exchange rate.  I really don't keep up on the international money markets anymore.

Well good luck with the pups.  I'm sure that they will do fine.

mm... yup... dunno... I have so little time to keep up on anything right now, the only reason I even know about the stupid thing is that my niece just recently moved across the border for school and we've been back and forth a couple times in the last month or so.

I hear ya!  When I dropped Misty off to get spayed, I cried (like a baby), I cried all the way home.  She looked so sad, she looked at me like I was abandoning her.  I'm using a small town vet as well and so I saw Misty in the cage, and she was whimpering, and crying.  I kept telling her I'd be back then she turned her head away from me as if to say "if you're leaving me here, and don't want me, I don't want to see you".  That's when I cried.  I felt like an a**, even apologized to the vet.  My girlfriend just laughed at me, telling me she'll be fine!  But like you said, it's your baby!  I think that's why when I went to pick her up even though she was all drugged up, she stood and even walked out to the car.  She was ready to come home!  She got tons and tons of lovin's when we got home, that's for sure!
