Grooming/Shaving a working Pyr?

Actually, on Rat's behalf I almost posted something myself regarding the last to posts on this thread. I can see why someone would be insulted. It looked as though those 2 posters did not read the thread entirely and jumped to the conclusion that Rat hadn't researched the breed. Obviously there was research or Rat wouldn't have gotten a Pyr to guard at all. We're talking about a working dog here, not a pampered house pet. Two completely different things.

Anyway, I can see where one would take offense.

I don't understand that people get these dogs, see the parents and then don't want the upkeep of the coats. People need to research the breed they choose and really think about if they can deal with the hair, upkeep, etc, before they get this dog.

This implies that there was no research done and that this is just a house pet. I got irritated just reading it and it's not my dog! Not to mention that this thread was done and over a long time ago....

    Then this:

Im glad someone with the proper knowledge of GPyr spoke up.....

Do your research on the breed so you can learn.

That is pretty insulting to someone who got a Pyr for guardian purposes. That makes me mad just reading it again!

I think when researching a breed it is important to understand what the breed's coat condition will be and how to take care of it.....example, I own northern breeds and GSDs.....when northern breeds blow their fur it's a mess.....that information has to be taken into consideration, just as knowing that northern breeds do not do so well in the hot south and need to have access to air conditioning....

All I am saying is, all parts of knowing about a breed is important.

I completely agree, but I also think there is a difference between research and hands on experience.

When I got Kayjin,  I had researched a ton, and knew all the text book ways to care for a poodle coat, but there is nothing like hands on experience.  I had to ask many groomers, many questions, and even had to have my groomer show me how to do certain things.  I don't think this has anything to do with me not doing enough research... I just had never done certain things before.

I think part of learning is asking questions along the way... no one was born with all the answers

Ditto what Jewlieee said.  Telling Ratsicles that she needs to do her research is not appropriate.  Her discussing different management practices does not make her a un-knowledgeable owner. She already said that she wasn't going to shave her dog before people added those silly comments to this ancient thread...

Well, for me, if even 30% of people respond to a thread of mine on an online forum and respond coherently and have actually read/understood what I wrote and have something even relatively useful to add, I consider myself lucky and ignore the rest. Stick out tongue Glad the grooming issues sort of got worked out, at least...
