    spay incision

    Hey guys,
Beignet, my 11 month old rott/shepherd mix, was spayed six days ago.  I understand that I am supposed to keep her activity minimal, but she's very active and some running and jumping has not been preventable.  Two days after her surgery, I had to take her back to the vet cause the top 2 of her 5 staples had started to come out.  The vet fixed them and added a couple more for reassurance.
The staples are still in now and she's been doing fine.  She does not lick the area at all and is not in any pain and has great energy.  However, the incision has scabbed up a bit and the area is a bit pink a swollen/hard, particularly at the points where each staple has entered the skin.  I just want to know if this is normal for 6 days post-op and if there's anything I should be doing.  Thanks for any advice, I'm a worried mommy!

If it really starts to swell and turn color, then i would contact the vet..

you need to keep the area clean and the pup "offline"as much as possible.

Did the vet give you anything to keep the area clean when he sent you home?

MIGHT ALSO WRAP THE DOG WITH AN ACE BANDAGE TO KEEP THE AREA CLEAN AND KEEP HER FROM LICKING IT... A STERILE PAD (SANITARY PAD) HELPS KEEP IT CLEAN AND HELPS TO PREVENT INFECTION...BUT IT WILL DO ALL RIGHT...BUT IF IN DOUBT CALL YOUR VET

Hey just an update, I took Beignet to the vet today and the doc says she's okay.  She is probably having a bit of a reaction to the staples, so he pulled a couple of the bad ones out and she'll get the rest out on Friday.  Whew!  Thanks for all the responses!
